My Story

I'm going to start with this. Failing is Learning!!

Here is my story

When I met my husband almost 20 years ago we lived very different lives. I wanted a big family, live on a farm, and have a home life. He wanted to travel and work on his hobby. We were as opposite as they come. It didn't take long though to fall in love with him. His lips were like magnets to me.

After being together for five years, traveling, working, and just really having fun we then decided it was time to settle down and start a family. On August 7th 2008 my husband popped the question and asked me to marry him. We then Married on May 9th 2009 and started our beautiful family on Dec 2nd 2009 with the addition of our amazing daughter to the family.

We had long talks about me staying home with her because we didn't want anyone else raising her and the price of daycare was like having two mortgages. So the decision was made to stay home and take care of my baby girl.

Life was great.

We did have another big decision to make. Did we want to stay in a little home and have one child or did we want to start to look for a bigger house and grow our family?? We started with finding a good realtor then the hunt was on. Now this became a job in itself, lol. My husband has a very complicated hobby that needed the perfect basement. I'll get into his hobby in a later post, but what we needed was a big basement that was fully open. Little did we know that was going to be very hard to find. We looked for months and couldn't find anything that met our needs so we had to look into building a house instead.

Little did we know we were about to build our dream home. This was a very magical time for our little family of three. It took a few months to build but in November of 2010 we moved into our beautiful dream home. Three weeks later we celebrated our daughters’ 1st birthday.

A little over three years later we welcomed our baby boy into the world. We were finally a complete family of four. Our son was born with some health issues so staying home again was a must.

Life was good but money was tight and times were starting to get tough so after 8 years of raising my kiddos at home it was time for mamma to look for a job.

This wasn't an easy thing to do. Yes I went to College and yes I had a degree, but all that didn't matter when you went to school over 10 years ago. My degree didn't really apply anymore because everything I learned didn't even exist anymore. So I had to go about looking for a job in a whole other way.

When I was a stay at home mom I did a lot of volunteer work for the school so I got to know a lot of people and other moms. Because of that I was able to find a job in our local school with the Latchkey program. This helped me in so many ways as it provided me with a babysitter for my kiddos when I was working. The only problem with this job was the travel time and the pay. In a course of two years I made less than what I was paying for daycare. So I wasn't really bringing in anything to help with the financial burden.

So I had to move on to big and better things. While in High School I took everything and anything beauty related. I took my knowledge and applied it to my next job.

I ended up working at what I would call my “dream job”. The days working at the salon were amazing. I loved every minute of that job, but here's the thing, it just didn't pay well enough for me to stay.  Again, I stayed for two years. The first year I made $8k and the second year I made $11k. Yes I could have stayed and grown with the job and made more money, but I just didn't have the time to wait for the day to make more. So I had to leave my dream job.

I then found a job catering for the schools. I was back in the school working with children, which I loved to do. It felt like home again and I was so happy doing it. I got more hours and I was home for the kids after school. This allowed me to be a mom again, having play-dates with the kids and after school fun.

Then COVID happened and well, when the schools weren't open, I couldn't work. So I did like everyone else and took two years off and hid in my home.

During Covid my husband had a heart attack and I almost lost my best friend and the kids almost lost their dad. It was a horrible time in our life but we made it through and my husband is doing great. I thank God everyday for giving us a second chance.

I have to say with going though his heart attack I did learn something very important. "life is way to short".

So in 2023 I had to make changes. Either get another job or try something different.
